A senior at the UGA, Liza Burke, has suffered a brain haemorrhage during her spring break vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, know her latest update

Jennifer Ritter, one of Burke’s friends who was with her, said that Burke felt fine when she woke up but later said she had a headache. Her friends called a doctor when they could not wake her a few hours later.

Burke was rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with Arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a birth defect in which blood vessels in the brain are twisted and break, causing bleeding. Burke is on life support in Mexico right now.

In an effort to raise money to pay for her medical care and a life-flight from Mexico to Jacksonville, Burke’s friends launched a GoFundMe page. The page reads,”So many people have reached out wanting to help, which is a testament to how many people Liza has touched. She is genuine, dynamic, playful, and fierce. She has so much left to give to the world. Please continue to pray for her full recovery.”

GoFundMe raises amount more than expected for Liza Burke

The fundraiser exceeded its initial goal of $40,000 within a day, with the total amount raised reaching $126,940. The community’s outpouring of support has overwhelmed Burke’s family and friends, and they express their gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the fundraiser.

On Tuesday morning, Burke’s family confirmed to WSB Radio that they have made it through customs in Houston and Burke is back in Jacksonville. Although she is being kept alive, Burke’s family and friends request prayers for her recovery.

Liza Burke had AVM from birth

Ritter said that Burke has had AVM since she was born, but no one knew it. Her family and friends are hoping for a miracle and asking for continued support in any way possible.
