Ordinal Penguins: The Sleeper Project With Historical Significance

Bitcoin Ordinals have been taking the NFT world by storm! We’ve been covering the mania in various features including “What Are Ordinals?” and coverage of the recent YugaLabs TwelveFold auction.

This rip-roaring emergence in recent weeks has breathed new life into a field that was starting to feel stale at times; presenting us with a fresh avenue to explore – and the possibility to become early adopters of an innovative technology.

While great projects such as Ordinal Punks, Inscribed Pepes, and Unordinals have been grabbing all the attention lately, there’s one project that’s somewhat flown under the radar in many respects.

These adorable penguins are more than just a cute, pixelated PFP, they represent a unique and rare opportunity to own a piece of crypto history. But what makes the Ordinal Penguins so special?

For starters, they are among the first 10,000 ordinal inscriptions ever created on the Bitcoin blockchain. In fact, they are inscribed between #2725 and #3650. Considering we are fast approaching the 400,000th inscription being generated, with no signs of this slowing down, this early attribute means they are incredibly rare and valuable in the view of some collectors.

Indeed, the penguins are part of a very exclusive club, but not just for that reason – there’s an even more exceptional aspect to this collection which has yet to become common knowledge.

Most inside the Ordinal community still haven’t picked up on this yet – It’s not only low inscriptions – sats matter.

Inscribed on 2009 satoshis

97 out of the 100 Ordinal Penguins are inscribed on Satoshis dated from 2009, the genesis year of the Bitcoin blockchain. This means they are not only rare but have a historical significance that cannot be overstated.

In essence, owning an Ordinal Penguin is akin to owning a tangible piece of Bitcoin’s history on both the ordinal and blockchain fronts!

The Culture Of The Pengu

Of course, it’s not just about the rarity and historical significance for the Ordinal Penguins. The community that has formed is vibrant and lively, filled with passionate collectors and enthusiasts. The Ordinal Penguins Discord server is always buzzing with activity, from discussing the latest sales and auctions, to sharing the latest alpha for collecting inscriptions across the wide spectrum of projects out there.

The Twitter activity is more of the same, with the penguins possessing a loyal and hyped-up fanbase who spread the word of the project at every opportunity.

For those lucky enough to get in on the ground floor, the mint price for an Ordinal Penguin was just 0.01 BTC ($209). However, as interest in these rare inscriptions has grown, so has their value. Mere hours before this article was published an ATH (all-time high) sale occurred for the coveted Diamond Pengu, which sold for a whopping 1 BTC ($20,950).

The buyer, @CrazyCryptoCarl, saw the value in the potential historical significance of the Ordinal Penguins stating “I’m taking a big bet on BTC and early pioneers. As I quickly found out on ETH, you’re either early or you get priced out.”

This penguin is under 4k inscription, and is one of only 275 NFTs in the first 10k BTC NFTs that is inscribed on a 2009 Satoshi. 97 others of those early Satoshi inscriptions are fellow @OrdinalPenguins. 🧠

What does the future hold for the Ordinal Penguins and other early ordinal inscriptions?

As the worlds of crypto and NFTs continue to grow and develop, these rare and historically significant pieces have the potential to become even more notable over time, most certainly as the number of inscriptions increases. They represent a unique part of Bitcoin history that cannot be replicated or replaced.

Since we’re still in the early stages of Ordinals, with wallets and marketplaces still finding their footing and the wider NFT community just starting to explore the ecosystem, exploring the opportunity presented by Ordinal Penguins is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a rare and unique opportunity.
