According to CNN, dancer Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer. The world renowned star of the hit stage show Riverdance, is currently receiving medical care at a facility in London.
The 60 year-old dancer built a career on his prowess and passionate love of dance, not only performing with Riverdance but also staging a successful music career and other stage performances. The excellent physical condition he has maintained over the years had been lauded, but sadly now he is battling one of the most dangerous forms of cancers.
This type of cancer, often caused by too much exposure to the sun, is known as melanoma, or malignant melanoma which is the most dangerous form. The struggles of this illness are hard, not only for Flatley himself but those that love him.
Melanoma is known for being an aggressive form of skin cancer and can be labeled as “hard to treat.” This diagnosis for Michael Flatley cannot be taken lightly, with such a deeply rooted passion for dance it must have been devastating for him to learn of this news.
Survival rates have been increasing but many live from the experience of having had this illness. A doctor from the Royal Marsden hospital remarks, “We are pioneering treatments which are becoming increasingly effective. I wish Michael Flatley all the best in his fight against this disease and we shall do our utmost to help him make it through by providing the best possible care.”
