Chris D’Elia was born on March 29, 1980 in the city of Montclair, which is located in the state of New Jersey, United States. His mother, Ellie D’Elia (née Dombroski), is an interior designer, and his father, television producer and director Bill D’Elia, is his father.

His mother, Ellie D’Elia, has genealogy from both Italy and Poland, while his father, Bill D’Elia, is an Italian-American who is of the second generation.
