Believe in College Scholarship Luck
Do you believe you or your student can win college scholarship money?
Really, really, REALLY believe it?
“Luck is believing you’re lucky.” ~ Tennessee Williams
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I love this quote by Tennessee Williams and can relate it to college scholarship winning on several levels.
Note: This post is NOT about students applying for as many scholarships as possible and hoping they will get lucky and win a few. If a ton of scholarships have been submitted and the student has not yet been selected as a winner, it is time to look deeper at the applications and essays and make a change NOW.
Make sure the SMART applying strategies are used!
When students believe they have what it takes to win college scholarships
Most scholarship organizations do not announce winners until the spring, meaning that students need to keep applying all throughout the school year, not knowing if they will be winners.
If they BELIEVE they have what it takes to win and apply SMART, they will feel empowered and excited about the scholarship
I know how hard it is this time of year.
There are many scholarship deadlines to meet and hardly any winning announcements. (If this is you, read this right now.)
Whatever you do, encourage your students to NOT stop applying!
Will luck help students win more college scholarships?
Maybe not, but the belief that they are lucky will give them the extra push that is needed
Parents can do a great deal about helping to instill the fact that their students have what it takes to win college scholarships in several ways.
They can read over essays and give positive feedback, while at the same time providing helpful guidance such as,
“I love the idea you are trying to get across here, but maybe a few more descriptive words in your opening sentence will help draw the reader in quicker”
Parents can also be the finders of scholarships and email their students lists of awards to apply for, saving students’ time and motivating them to submit even more applications.

Parents are lucky when students win scholarship money, lessening the amount of money they may need to pay or borrow to help their students get through college.
Students, as you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, think about how strongly you believe in yourself and dig deep to find the luck that is already inside of you.
Parents, never stop encouraging and motivating your students, especially in the college scholarship process.
